Pro Mujer, a social enterprise working to advance gender equality in Latin America since 1990 announced two Commitments to Action at the 2023 Clinton Global Initiative Meeting.
“Pro Mujer is proud to announce these Commitments to Action in this global gathering of change-makers. Women are catalysts of development, drivers of local economies, and job creators. Now, more than ever, it is critical to focus on breaking down the structural barriers that limit women’s ability to reach their full potential, not only in Latin America, but worldwide”, said Carmen Correa, CEO of Pro Mujer, at the event organized by the Clinton Foundation, which brings Clinton Global Initiative’s community of doers together to take action on the world’s most pressing challenges.
Economic Independence for Latin American Migrant Women
To increase economic independence and facilitate personal and professional growth for migrant women, Pro Mujer will expand its digital entrepreneurship training platform “Emprende Pro Mujer” to the United States. The expansion will target migrant and host communities throughout the migration pipeline from South America to the United States.
This free online platform for Latin American women will provide access to educational content, live classes, and mentoring opportunities. Emprende Pro Mujer is already incredibly successful in Latin America. With support from committed partners such as the Visa Foundation, Google.org, and Microsoft, the platform has transformed the lives of over 42,000 women entrepreneurs in more than 23 Latin American countries since launching in 2021.
This is a significant milestone for the organization as the first program launched in the United States. Pro Mujer anticipates reaching an estimated 9,000 potential or returned migrants and their families with new skills and opportunities, indirectly impacting more than 36,000 individuals. Women can access this platform via the landing page on any web browser through the following link https://bit.ly/EmprendeUSA2023.
Increasing health equity and improving the sexual and reproductive health of women in Northern Central America and Mexico.
Pro Mujer will expand health services related to sexual and reproductive health to reach 70,000 women and their families in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico. In a region where only 54% of women have access to modern contraception, the action plan to reach this goal includes the launching of a Community Health Workers program, providing women with access to information, comprehensive sexual education, and/or products to support their family planning, and combining in-person support with educational digital tools, including the creation of a sexual and reproductive health chatbot.
Pro Mujer is a social enterprise that has worked for 33 years to advance gender equality in Latin America to provide funding, training, and health services to underserved women in Latin America. The organization has disbursed more than USD 4.4 billion in microfinance, provided 10 million in preventative health services, and impacted the lives of more than 2.5 million women.
