Breast cancer is the main cause of cancer deaths among women in Latin America. An early detection can save your life. Pro Mujer provided 146,676 breast cancer tests between 2018 and 2019.
Karla Ortiz is a breast cancer survivor. She is one of the many brave women we want to highlight as we celebrate our 30th anniversary.
In this video, Karla shares her personal experience on how being diagnosed with breast cancer, at the age of 34, impacted her life as well as her 14-year-old son.
Her fight against cancer started in May of 2019. During a self-examination, she felt a small “ball” in her right breast. Her story reflects the importance of early detection to get treatment and cure.
As a client of Pro Mujer in Nicaragua, she was able to get health care and $700 to get treatment. When women get a micro credit with Pro Mujer, they get health insurance offered by Pro Mujer.
Karla is brave and inspiration to all of us. Currently, she is getting ready to get a mastectomy so she can continue living her dreams.
