Pro Mujer recognizes one of its best economics students in Bolivia, Lucia García Encina, by providing financial support.

To prepare students to carry out demanding postgraduate work abroad and improve their education, Pro Mujer provides an educational scholarship to top-performing seniors, recent graduates and graduates of the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Chile and the Departments of Economics at the Bolivian Catholic University (UCB) and the Private University of Bolivia (UPB). Recently, Pro Mujer provided a scholarship to Lucia García Encinas, who completed her studies with excellence at the Universidad Mayor de San Simón from the city of Cochabamba, Bolivia. Using the scholarship, Lucia completed the “Excellence in Economics” course, which covered topics related to macroeconomics, microeconomics and econometrics.

“The Excellence in Economics course allowed me to deepen and broaden my knowledge. Opportunities help us grow. I appreciate the experience and the opportunity, which has shown me that being a woman is not an impediment, but a motor to improve and grow academically and personally. We must train ourselves to contribute to society,” said Lucia.

At the age of 21, Lucia wishes to undertake an international postgraduate study in “Social Development.” She is currently a research assistant at the Institute for Socio-Economic Research (IISEC) at the Bolivian Catholic University “San Pablo.” She is also one of the founders of the organization WISSEN: Estudiantes Creando Futuro, which aims to improve training for economics students from the Universidad Mayor de San Simón by encouraging them to think critically and research to create a better future for everyone.

The “Excellence in Economics” course was created to support top-performing seniors, recent graduates and graduates studying economics from all Bolivian universities. It aims to provide its participants with frontier knowledge in economic science, raise their levels of academic quality and prepare them to carry out demanding postgraduate courses abroad. To date, there have been four very successful versions of this course, awarding full and partial scholarships to students. This year, Lucia was chosen for this scholarship out of five students.

“I am especially happy that Fundación Pro Mujer IFD has decided to support our program, making it possible for a young economist with demonstrated academic excellence to attend the course. I am very proud to participate in this initiative, which I am convinced provides its attendees the opportunities to change lives (for the better),” said Rómulo Chumacero, Ph.D., one of the organizing teachers of the course.

Pro Mujer congratulates the 18 participants of the course “Excellence in Economics” and wish them continuous academic improvement and professional development.
