Just last week, Pro Mujer was informed that we have been approved to become 1 of 29 United Nations Department of Public Information-affiliated NGOs (UN DPI/NGO). UNDPI partners with NGOs to facilitate the exchange of information and develop partnerships with civil society advocates who play an active role in promoting peace, democracy, development and human rights.

As part of this year’s class of UNDPI/NGOs, Pro Mujer joins 28 other organizations from countries around the world including Austria, Brazil, Germany, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Nigeria, Spain, Sri Lanka, Ukraine and the United States. These organizations, which can be viewed here, were approved during the Committee’s annual meeting held in NYC on April 4th. This brings the number of NGOs associated with the Department to 1,322.

At the time of our application, Pro Mujer received endorsements from the Peruvian Ambassador to the United States, Luis Valdivieso; former Federal Reserve Chairman and Senior Advisor, Paul Volcker; and Joanne Sandler, Deputy Executive Director for Programmes, UN Development Fund for Women (now part of UN Women).

As a result of our affiliation, Pro Mujer will enjoy a number of benefits, including:

  • Annual ground passes to access United Nations premises and all open meetings;
  • Attend the annual UNDPI/NGO Conference, which attracts approximately 1,500 representatives from 70 countries; and
  • Opportunities to participate in or host workshops and events, as well as receive from and publish news in UN publications.
