As part of our efforts to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, Pro Mujer’s technology team, led by Chief Technology Officer Lelio Di Geronimo, developed and launched the mobile app RADAR for Pro Mujer’s employees across Latin America.
The app provides a daily snapshot of the organizational risk for COVID-19 infection, helping Pro Mujer respond swiftly to protect workers and our beneficiaries.

App RADAR relies on voluntary self-reported data with privacy and confidentiality at its core.

“This is a tool to help us monitor daily the impact of COVID-19 not only on our organization but across our communities. We cannot build effective strategies without having the right data to back them up,” said Pro Mujer President & CEO, Maria Cavalcanti.

When employees download the free app or access it through the web, they can share relevant information including whether they have had any COVID-19 symptoms or if they have been in contact with anyone who has had COVID-19. It also asks about the number of people living in their household and whether they have any chronic diseases to help assess risk factors.

If an employee has any symptoms or has been in contact with someone who has had COVID-19, our health team immediately reports the case. One nurse or health worker contacts the individual to provide guidance and information on how best to deal with the virus. All information about our staff members is confidential.

“We want to make sure we are aware about what is happening in real time and do a close follow-up with each of our employees,” said Pro Mujer’s Global Health Coordinator, Maria Fernanda Diaz de la Vega.

Pro Mujer employs more than 1500 people across the six countries where we operate. As a health and women’s organization, Pro Mujer is leveraging its 30 years of experience, creating networks and building trust in the communities we serve, in order to provide much-needed support during this crisis.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, our health team has been receiving trainings to provide counseling and related health information to our patients and staff members to help counter a worrying prevalence of false information online.

At the same time, our health services continue to reach patients through WhatsApp and other digital platforms to help answer questions related to the novel virus or their overall health. We are close to launching a chatbot to serve at least five thousand women in Mexico and Nicaragua who are considered high risk, providing them with preventive care education and guidance on how best to protect themselves. This pandemic has brought to light the importance of digital tools and digitization of resources to be able to serve and reach more women in Latin America. Pro Mujer is ready to continue expanding its health services to reach more women with the care and information they need to lead healthier lives.
