On August 22nd, Pro Mujer and GlaxoSmithKline announced a three-year, five-country partnership at a launch event in Lima hosted by Pro Mujer in Peru (PMP). Through a US$575,000 grant, GlaxoSmithKline will help support the standardization of Pro Mujer’s health services as well as the organization’s expansion efforts in Argentina, Bolivia, Mexico, Nicaragua and Peru.

The partnership with GlaxoSmithKline represents a joint effort to improve the comprehensive health services we provide our clients. Specifically, these services will focus on reducing the five chronic diseases that afflict women living in impoverished communities the most:  cervical and breast cancers, hypertension, obesity and diabetes.

In making the announcement, Naldi Delgado, General Manager of Pro Mujer in Peru, said, “This partnership will help us extend our health services to reach 120,000 women by 2014, benefiting the women who are in the greatest need, and in this way increase their awareness of their own role in preventing illnesses, for the prosperity of their businesses and their families.” In total, we expect to reach 470,000 microentrepreneurs across the region with the support of GlaxoSmithKline.

Abraham Quesada, General Manager of GlaxoSmithKline in Peru added, ““GlaxoSmithKline is committed to improving people’s quality of life; this partnership with Pro Mujer will help us promote a responsible attitude toward health among women.”

A day before the launch event, Pro Mujer took a symbolic first step in its expansion efforts by inaugurating a new administrative office in Peru’s capital. For more on that story, please click here.
