Thanks to support from Yapay Bolivia and Alliance Bolivia, Pro Mujer will expand the telemedicine health services it offers to women living in the rural and peri-urban areas of El Alto and San Ignacio in Santa Cruz.

Although Bolivia technically offers universal health coverage, every year, 6% of households face catastrophic emergency medical expenses (WHO). It is essential to encourage a culture of prevention and timely access to care, especially among vulnerable groups, including women, Indigenous communities, and rural populations.

At Pro Mujer, we seek to expand the access of women and their families to health and wellness services that allow them to achieve their goals and make their ideas a reality. As part of these efforts, we train women to become volunteer community health workers who provide access to health check-ups and tests for women and members of urban, peri-urban, and rural communities. Since 2020, we’ve trained more than 230 community volunteers. In 2022, these community health workers offered more than 28,000 tests and more than 22,000 counseling sessions.

Additionally, more than 21,000 people accessed health services through more than 30 Innovasalud clinics located in Pro Mujer offices.

The partnership with Yapay Bolivia and Alliance Bolivia will help strengthen these initiatives and will help directly reduce gaps in access to health care.
