As part of our commitment to providing Pro Mujer clients with holistic and comprehensive support, Pro Mujer participated in two events in March focused on providing marginalized women with access to health information and services. These initiatives offer access to education and seek to strengthen the prevention and timely detection of various medical conditions, positively impacting the quality of life of hundreds of women, their families, and communities.
Health Fair in Hidalgo with FUCAM
On March 7 and 8, Pro Mujer collaborated with FUCAM to organize a health fair in Hidalgo focused on women’s health, including early detection of breast cancer, sexual and reproductive health, self-care, and more. A total of 190 local people attended workshops, received support, and accessed relevant information. Over the course of the day, more than 140 mammograms and 30 clinical breast exams were performed. Additionally, 9 contraceptive implants were placed, and more than 25 women received guidance regarding contraceptive methods.
Some relevant findings from the event included the following:
- Eight women had never had a mammogram.
- Thirteen women had not had a mammogram in more than three years.
- Three women had a family history of breast cancer or warning signs, such as discharge or lumps, and were referred to a medical follow-up.
Health Fair in Puebla with Banorte
On March 5 and 6, Pro Mujer was invited by Fundación Banorte to participate in a health fair focused on education, prevention, and early detection of chronic illnesses and women’s health issues in Santa Cruz Cuautomatitla, Tochimilco.
- A total of 102 people participated in health screenings, which included:
- 43 clinical breast exams
- 45 in-person medical consultations and 30 vouchers for follow-up telehealth appointments
- Additionally, more than 100 children participated in the healthy nutrition module.
- A total of 85 people received information regarding sexual and reproductive health, including 52 family planning sessions and condom distribution.
- 73 people received information regarding breast cancer.
- 50 people received information regarding cervical cancer, and 20 regarding menstrual health.
Available health screenings included blood pressure, BMI weight and height tests, waist circumference measurements, and blood glucose levels. Some relevant findings from the event included the following:
- 72% of participants were overweight or obese.
- 82% of participants had abdominal obesity.
- 19% showed blood pressure alterations.
- 38% presented alterations in blood glucose levels.
All individuals with identified risk factors received nutrition counseling, medical follow-up, and vouchers for telehealth consultations.
These health fairs highlight Pro Mujer’s commitment to expanding access to health services for marginalized women and reinforce the importance of early detection and prevention. Strategic partnerships with organizations like FUCAM and Fundación Banorte help us continue to support the well-being of women and their communities.
