No Pausa, an organization dedicated to supporting women experiencing menopause, and Pro Mujer established a strategic partnership to provide women in Latin America with information about menopause, raise awareness about their experiences, and support their well-being.
According to the World Health Organization, most women experience menopause between the ages of 45 and 55 years as a natural part of biological aging. By 2025, there will be over 1 billion women experiencing menopause in the world, 37 million of whom will be in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Additionally, most women now live almost one-third of their lives after menopause due to increasing life expectancies. According to the ECLAC Demographic Observatory, as the population ages, the fertility rate in Latin America is expected to stabilize at 1.7 children per woman, and life expectancy will exceed 75 years by 2050.
However, despite its relevance to women’s health, menopause remains a little-discussed topic, especially in the workplace, where symptoms such as hot flashes, sleep disturbances, and mood swings can represent significant challenges for working women. A lack of understanding and support at work can impact women’s productivity and well-being, underscoring the need to engage with this issue as a human rights issue.
To eliminate stigma and increase understanding of menopause, No Pausa and Pro Mujer have come together to provide reliable information and practical tools to support women experiencing menopause, as well as implement educational campaigns to create more inclusive and understanding work environments.
Carmen Correa, CEO of Pro Mujer, said, “This partnership is critical to ensuring that women in Latin America receive the support and care they deserve during menopause. By making their experiences and needs visible, we are improving their well-being and promoting more equitable and humane work environments.”
For her part, Miriam De Paoli, founder and CEO of No Pausa, commented: “Adequate knowledge about menopause is essential to guaranteeing women’s human rights. Together with Pro Mujer, we are committed to providing the resources and support necessary for women to live this stage of life with dignity and well-being.”
