Mujer Segura: Over 17,000 women supported and a new service point opened in El Alto, Bolivia

Pro Mujer’s program on support and containment of gender-based violence, Mujer Segura, has provided more than 17,000 services to women in situations of violence, including more than 4,000 instances of face-to-face assistance in Bolivia in 2024 alone. In El Alto, the program provided support to more than 1,300 women through a digital form, reaffirming its impact in the fight against gender violence.

Nonetheless, challenges remain. According to the Gender Observatory of the Women’s Coordinator, 81 femicides were recorded in 2024 alone, and in 2023 the Prosecutor’s Office received more than 11,000 complaints of sexual violence against women, children, and adolescents in Bolivia in 2023.

In this context, Pro Mujer opened the fourth #MujerSegura service point in the city of El Alto, specifically in the Villa Adela area. This space, which will be open from Monday to Friday, joins the organization’s efforts to provide guidance, support, and accompaniment to women facing violence, along with other service points that already exist in La Paz and Santa Cruz.

“With the opening of this fourth service point, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting Bolivian women in vulnerable situations, offering not only assistance but also a safe space to escape the cycle of violence,” said Cecilia Campero, Pro Mujer’s country representative.

The support provided at this center includes orientation sessions that help women identify their rights and learn about alternatives to escape the cycle of violence. In addition, they are offered emotional support in a safe environment, information on available legal and social services, and ongoing monitoring based on their specific decisions and needs.

Pro Mujer’s work not only seeks to address cases of violence but also to raise awareness in society and empower women to report cases and access a life free of violence. With this new space, the organization continues to strengthen its mission of transforming the reality of thousands of Bolivian women.
