Pro Mujer strengthens its presence in Guatemala and Honduras through new strategic partnerships

Globally, low levels of female empowerment and significant gender gaps remain an alarming reality. Over 3.1 billion women and girls —more than 90% of the global female population— live in countries where women’s empowerment is medium or low, and gender inequalities are deeply entrenched. In Latin America and the Caribbean, the Women’s Empowerment Index stands at 63%, and gender parity is at 75%. However, in countries like Guatemala, female empowerment is only 48%, and gender parity barely reaches 57%. In Honduras, the figures are slightly higher, with empowerment at 54% and parity at 71%.

This context, along with a deep understanding of the pressing needs of women in the region, has led Pro Mujer to strengthen its presence in Guatemala and Honduras. With over 34 years of experience, the organization has been actively working in the Northern Triangle as part of its commitment to the Partnership for Central America (PCA).

Through collaborations with two local entities—the Congregation of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Guatemala and the National Club of Women Entrepreneurs in Honduras—Pro Mujer will support women in these countries by offering training opportunities and financial inclusion, as part of its holistic and integrated model, which has positively impacted more than 2.5 million women across Latin America.

Through Emprende Pro Mujer, a platform dedicated to women seeking economic prosperity through entrepreneurship, women affiliated with these institutions will have access to educational content tailored to the stage of their business. They will develop skills in digital literacy, leadership, management, personal development, finance, and sales, while also connecting with other entrepreneurs and businesswomen in the region. In less than three years, Emprende Pro Mujer has impacted over 101,900 women in 23 countries across Latin America and the United States, providing them with the tools to reach their full potential and improve their quality of life.

At the same time, Pro Mujer will continue promoting the economic autonomy of women entrepreneurs by facilitating the financial access they need to invest in and grow their businesses.

With these alliances, Pro Mujer continues its mission to transform the lives of women in Central America, providing them with the necessary tools to overcome barriers and achieve autonomy and their full potential.
