Pro Mujer and Bolivisión Celebrate A Year of Impact

In July 2022, Pro Mujer joined forces with Bolivision, the television network with the second-highest ratings and the most extensive reach among women in Bolivia, to promote the Mujer Segura program, an initiative focused on addressing gender-based violence (GBV) in Bolivia. Bolivia has the highest femicide rate in South America and the fourth highest in Latin America. In 2022, GBV impacted the lives of more than 50,000 women, a 10% increase compared to 2021 (Fiscalía Especializada en Delitos de Razón de Género y Juvenil).

The Mujer Segura program was created in 2020 at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic when gender-based violence skyrocketed. The program started as a free and confidential hotline (800102414) designed to provide support, guidance, and counseling to women in situations of violence. In September 2021, Mujer Segura offices were opened in La Paz and El Alto, and the new branch office in Villa Fátima opened in 2022. Since its launch, the Mujer Segura hotline has received more than 10,000 calls, and we’ve supported an additional 2,000 cases via our physical offices.

To reach even more women, Pro Mujer partnered with Bolivisión on the “Abre los Ojos” campaign to raise awareness of and share information on GBV.

This partnership has allowed us to raise awareness of the Mujer Segura hotline and implement activities focused on GBV in various public spaces.  We have also had the opportunity to share information about our in-person services and implemented workshops on preventing GBV with students.

We’ve reached more than 5 million people via television broadcasts, gained 800,000 followers on social networks, and given more than 20 interviews over 5 months.

Let’s keep working to transform the lives of thousands of women in the region!
