With the goal of strengthening women’s economic opportunities in rural Mexico, Pro Mujer, a social enterprise with more than three decades of experience working to advance gender equality in Latin America, and Root Capital, an organization that invests in the growth of small and medium-sized agricultural businesses, announced a strategic partnership to facilitate access to entrepreneurial education for coffee producers in the state of Chiapas.
As part of this collaboration, 85 women from the Café Capitán de Chiapas Cooperative will strengthen their skills in business management, leadership, and finance, boosting their economic autonomy and the economic development of their communities.
The training will be implemented using the Emprende Pro Mujer platform, which is designed to support women entrepreneurs at every stage of their entrepreneurial journey. Since its launch in 2021, Emprende has changed the lives of more than 100,000 women entrepreneurs from 23 countries in Latin America, providing them with practical tools adapted to their needs and realities.
In a country where more than half of rural women live in poverty (Coneval) and only 36% of formal loans go to women from rural areas, this collaboration seeks to close structural gaps that limit women’s growth and potential in the agricultural sector.
“When a woman has access to the right tools, it not only transforms her life, but drives development and progress for her entire community,” said Carmen Correa, CEO of Pro Mujer. “This collaboration with Root Capital will allow us to reach more women in the agricultural sector and support them as they strengthen their businesses and become transformative leaders in their communities.”
