Since its creation in 2020, Mujer Segura has become an essential service within Bolivia’s ecosystem for the prevention of and response to gender-based violence.
Through its free and confidential hotline, the program provides guidance, emotional support, and accompaniment to women experiencing violence or vulnerability, combining phone-based, in-person, and digital services to reach an ever-growing number of territories.
In 2025, the program reaffirmed its impact with significant results. More than 20,400 calls were received, and 13,000 effective orientations were provided—an achievement that reflects the trust women place in this service and the strong commitment of the promoter teams.
Additionally, 6,000 women received in-person support at Pro Mujer IFD facilities in La Paz and El Alto, thanks to the close, empathetic work of promoters and specialized teams. Of these women, 8 out of 10 were accompanied by a promoter, while 20% requested direct guidance.
Among the types of violence reported, psychological violence predominated (42%), followed by economic violence (29%), physical violence (25%), and sexual violence (4%). Family law continues to be the most common legal issue addressed, representing 33% of cases.
Technology has also played a key role: thanks to the digital form developed by Pro Mujer, remote assistance was provided to an additional 3,000 women, expanding reach and improving service efficiency.
The year 2025 also marked an important step in the program’s territorial expansion.
With funding from the Swiss Embassy in Bolivia, Mujer Segura extended its services to the cities of Tarija and Santa Cruz, adding two new in-person service points at Pro Mujer IFD branches—Ballivián (Santa Cruz) and Panamericano (Tarija)—where seven promoters actively work on prevention and community awareness. The inauguration of this space takes place on November 25.
And this commitment continues to grow!
During this significant month, Pro Mujer also signed an inter-institutional agreement with the Universidad Privada Domingo Savio (UPDS), establishing cooperation mechanisms to develop joint actions for the prevention, awareness-raising, and support of cases of gender-based violence.
Key commitments under this agreement include:
- Dissemination of the free hotline and Mujer Segura services through UPDS institutional channels.
- Free legal sponsorship, coordinated through the University’s Law program, for cases referred by Pro Mujer in civil, labor, family, and child and adolescent matters.
- Organization of workshops, talks, and awareness campaigns on human rights, health, and economic empowerment.
