Laboratorios Bagó and Pro Mujer Renew their Partnership to Support Women Experiencing Violence

When a woman decides to ask for help, it’s important for her to know that she is not alone. As part of their commitment to supporting women experiencing gender-based violence, Laboratorios Bagó de Bolivia and Pro Mujer renewed their partnership for the fourth consecutive year to strengthen prevention and care.

Since the #MujerSegura initiative launched in 2021, the program has become a vital support network for women. Over the course of four years, the hotline has received 13,240 calls, and in-person support was provided for 5,128 cases. Thanks to this initiative, 82% of the women that have contacted #MujerSegura have an action plan in place to break the cycle of violence. Our community health workers also provide guidance, connecting with women not only in Pro Mujer’s offices, but also in their neighborhoods and communities, where they are most needed.

The new phase of the partnership includes a contribution from Laboratorios Bagó to cover part of the operational costs of the #MujerSegura call center (800 10 24 14), transportation and data plans to support the in-person care provided by Pro Mujer’s community health workers, and awareness-raising and outreach initiatives to bring the message of prevention and support to more women.

“This partnership reflects our commitment to the fight against gender-based violence and to supporting the comprehensive health and well-being of Bolivian women,” said María Reneé Centellas Guevara, General Manager of Laboratorios Bagó de Bolivia S.A.

Cecilia Campero, Pro Mujer’s Country Representative in Bolivia, stressed that this collaboration with the private sector “strengthens the sustainability of #MujerSegura and allows us to connect with and support thousands of women who seek to break cycles of violence.”

This new agreement is part of Pro Mujer’s initiatives to create safer environments that offer equal opportunities and access to support services for women in Bolivia. Breaking cycles of violence is hard, but building bridges between companies, organizations, and communities can help make it a little easier.

Launched in 2020, the #MujerSegura program sought to respond to the spike in violence against women at the start of the COVID pandemic, becoming one of the most urgent issues in the country. Since then, more than 20,000 women have found support through the toll-free #MujerSegura hotline (800 10 2414), and more than 12,000 women have received effective support using protocols developed in coordination with UN Women. In the cities of La Paz, El Alto, and Santa Cruz, 5,732 women received in-person support, which led to filing 4,535 formal complaints.

For Laboratorios Bagó de Bolivia S.A., the renewal of this partnership not only reflects the organization’s commitment to sustainability and social responsibility, but also has a direct positive impact on society, contributing to building safer, more equitable and resilient communities, and aligning the company’s actions with the 2030 Agenda, with a particular focus on the sustainable development goals focused on gender, health, and justice.
