After successfully working together and achieving tangible results on the ground, Pro Mujer and PROSPERiA are strengthening their strategic alliance through the signing of a new collaboration agreement aimed at expanding access to eye health services for women in vulnerable situations in Mexico.
This partnership continues a shared vision that both organizations began bringing to life in 2024, when they launched eye health campaigns in Mexico City and Hidalgo, incorporating artificial intelligence technology for the early detection of eye diseases. That experience demonstrated the potential of combining innovation, a social impact approach, and community-based work to reduce long-standing gaps in access to healthcare.
During these campaigns, PROSPERiA’s artificial intelligence platform, retinIA, was deployed to analyze retinal images captured with non-mydriatic (non-dilated) fundus cameras. Within minutes, the platform generates reports with findings, recommendations, and medical referrals, enabling timely detection of conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and cataracts.
Mexico ranks among the top ten countries worldwide with the highest incidence of vision loss, and more than half of those affected are women. In this context, the new agreement seeks to scale and systematize high-impact initiatives by more structurally integrating real-time vision screenings into the community health campaigns led by Pro Mujer.
Under this agreement, PROSPERiA will provide preferential financial terms and specialized technical support for the delivery of ophthalmological services. Both organizations will also collaborate in identifying and jointly pursuing funding opportunities — across public, private, philanthropic, and international cooperation sectors — to expand geographic reach and ensure project sustainability.
“The work we carried out with PROSPERiA in 2024 confirmed that early detection and timely access to eye health services can change life trajectories. This partnership reinforces our commitment to bringing innovative solutions closer to women who face greater barriers to access,” said René Jimenez, Health Manager at Pro Mujer.
“We are excited to work with Pro Mujer because we share the mission of reducing health gaps that disproportionately affect women. Together, we can scale the impact of retinIA so that more women can detect diseases in time — conditions that can otherwise take away their vision and their autonomy,” said Cristina Campero, CEO of PROSPERiA.
The partnership includes both in-person and digital interventions, tailored to the realities of each community. With this step, Pro Mujer and PROSPERiA reaffirm their commitment to democratizing access to eye health, strengthening preventive care, and contributing in a concrete way to reducing inequalities in Mexico.
