Pro Mujer and the Fondo Mujer Libre y Productiva strengthen the businesses of 4,000 women in Colombia

After two years of joint work, Pro Mujer and the Fondo Mujer Libre y Productiva celebrate the results of an alliance that has boosted education, entrepreneurship, and economic leadership for thousands of women across the country.

Through the Emprende Pro Mujer program, the initiative provided training and support to more than 4,000 Colombian women in all 32 departments, strengthening their business and financial skills, promoting economic autonomy, and contributing to closing gender gaps.

Between October 2023 and September 2025, the program achieved nationwide coverage with significant results:

  • More than 3,600 entrepreneurs graduated through the digital modality, focused on self-paced, flexible, and accessible training from anywhere in the country.
  • More than 400 entrepreneurs graduated through the hybrid modality, implemented in the departments of Vaupés, Caquetá, Guaviare, Guainía, and Vichada, with a territorial and intercultural approach that reached rural and Indigenous communities.
  • Over 4,300 certificates were awarded to women who completed one or more program modules.

An inclusive and intersectional approach was one of the program’s core pillars: 11% of participants identified as Afro-descendant and 5% as members of Indigenous communities, reinforcing both organizations’ commitment to diversity and territorial equity.

This alliance allowed us to bring education and empowerment tools to women in every corner of the country. What began as a pilot project is now a living network of women entrepreneurs driving local economic development with equality and leadership,” said Carmen Correa, CEO of Pro Mujer.

Mentor Training: A New Model of Collaborative Leadership

One of the most significant milestones of the second year of implementation was the creation of a mentor training model, designed to scale the program’s impact and ensure long-term sustainability.

Through this component, 76 women leaders were trained in leadership, entrepreneurial support, and community-based pedagogies. Today, these mentors replicate Pro Mujer’s methodology in 14 municipalities across 12 departments, already benefiting more than 2,280 additional women.

The process combined virtual sessions with in-person gatherings in three hubs—Pacific, Central, and Caribbean—where participants shared experiences, learnings, and strategies to strengthen the local economic fabric through peer collaboration.

From the Fondo Mujer Libre y Productiva, we promote training programs that strengthen women’s economic autonomy in all their diversity, fostering their ability to create, lead, and decide. Thanks to the alliance with Pro Mujer, we have supported more than 3,600 graduates through the digital modality and 400 through the hybrid modality, along with 76 mentors who promote community-based learning in entrepreneurship. This initiative represents a significant step forward in consolidating women’s autonomy and demonstrates that when a woman becomes an entrepreneur, she transforms her life and her community,” added Norma Pérez Peña, Coordinator of Economic Autonomy at the Fondo Mujer Libre y Productiva.

With the close of this second phase, Pro Mujer and the Fondo Mujer Libre y Productiva have established a national network of women leaders, mentors, and entrepreneurs, consolidating a scalable, replicable, and sustainable model of education and economic empowerment.

Looking ahead, both organizations are already working on a new third phase of the project, aimed at further expanding territorial reach and deepening impact in rural, Indigenous, and Afro-descendant communities. This next stage seeks to strengthen the mentor network, diversify digital tools, and continue advancing the economic autonomy of more women across Colombia.
