As part of the 2XTAP (2X Technical Assistance Program) project, funded by the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), Pro Mujer’s Gender Knowledge Lab (GKL) worked alongside Banco Atlántida and CrediQ, two renowned financial institutions in Honduras and El Salvador, supporting them in strengthening their commitment to gender equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Relying on its proven methodology and in partnership with Equilo, the GKL provided both in-person and virtual technical assistance throughout 2024, achieving successful outcomes with both institutions.
The relationship with Banco Atlántida began in March and continues to this day. The process started with an in-person visit to the bank’s offices in Tegucigalpa, where a gender diagnosis was conducted to assess the current situation and identify areas for further strengthening gender equality and diversity processes. Following this, trainings were held to raise awareness among teams about gender equality in the financial sector, as well as specialized workshops for decision-makers on the importance of inclusive leadership.
These sessions successfully raised awareness among selected teams at Banco Atlántida while also providing practical tools to mainstream a gender approach into the bank’s operations and internal policies. Currently, the technical assistance process is ongoing both virtually and in-person, with focus groups scheduled to continue until the end of October. The process is expected to conclude in December with in-person workshops focused on value propositions and gender-responsive financial products and services.
As for CrediQ, in September, Pro Mujer’s team of gender experts visited CrediQ’s offices in El Salvador to complete the technical assistance process that began in 2023. During this visit, three training sessions were conducted with the organization’s teams, aimed at fostering a culture of equality. Additionally, a session on gender-sensitive communication and marketing strategies was held, along with training on inclusive leadership practices. Over the course of three days, nearly 150 individuals received in-person training, complementing the ongoing virtual efforts to develop tools and skills. Moreover, Pro Mujer supported CrediQ in implementing a Protocol for the Prevention and Attention of Workplace Violence and Discrimination, co-created by the GKL and CrediQ, to ensure a safe and equitable working environment for all employees.
It is worth noting that both CrediQ and Banco Atlántida participated in the panel “2XTAP in Action: Success Stories from LATAM Financial Institutions” at the 2024 GLI Forum Latam in Buenos Aires. The goal was to share with other financial institutions and representatives present at the Forum the best practices, challenges, and solutions in integrating a gender perspective into their operations, products, and services.
Since its inception, the Gender Knowledge Lab has worked with over 200 organizations and impacted more than 3,000 individuals through trainings, mentoring, and technical assistance programs. This effort is backed by Pro Mujer’s more than 34 years of leadership in promoting gender equality in the financial, business, and entrepreneurial sectors across Latin America. With a solid infrastructure and a specialized technical team, the GKL offers an innovative vision aimed at profoundly transforming the gender paradigm across the region.
