Pro Mujer Receives Support from Airbnb to Provide Training to Women Entrepreneurs in Quintana Roo

Located in Southeast Mexico, Quintana Roo is internationally recognized for its tourist attractions and natural beauty. In 2022, the state reported the highest level of economic growth for the second consecutive year (INEGI). However, in 2020, poverty among women increased by 17.6% compared to 2018, and it is estimated that at least 47.3% of women do not have access to social security (CONEVAL).

As part of its efforts to address these issues, Airbnb has awarded a grant to Pro Mujer to encourage the inclusive economic development of the state using the transformative power of female entrepreneurship and to empower the women of Quintana Roo using its entrepreneurial training platform, Emprende Pro Mujer.

The initiative will implement the Emprende Pro Mujer hybrid model, an intersectional methodology that seeks to address the challenges faced by underserved women.

In 2022, the hybrid model was implemented in Oaxaca, Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, and Yucatán and has reached more than 2,200 women entrepreneurs in these states.

Impact statistics show that 7 out of 10 women who graduated from the program reported increased confidence in their abilities to achieve their goals, and more than 60% adopted savings and budget habits.

“This contribution from Airbnb is an amazing support for one of our most impactful initiatives,” stated Carmen Correa, CEO of Pro Mujer. “Thanks to this grant, we will be able to reach more women in Southeast Mexico. We are proud to work alongside partners like Airbnb that share our mission and that, like Pro Mujer, seek to support Latin American women to reach their full potential.”

The grant from Airbnb will be used to strengthen Pro Mujer’s efforts to empower women’s entrepreneurship in the region and promote Southeast Mexico as a new development hub for Mexico and Latin America.
