Maria Cavalcanti with a Pro Mujer Cient in Nicaragua.

Dear Pro Mujer family member,

Welcome to this Nicaragua-focused edition of “From the Field,” our quarterly newsletter and my very first as President and CEO of Pro Mujer. I am honored and thrilled to be a part of this team. It has only been two months since my appointment and I already feel that we have done so much together.

At Pro Mujer, we believe that our work is an investment in humankind. In 2015, we proudly supported more than 250,000 courageous, low-income women in Latin America as they realized their self-worth, lifted themselves and their families out of poverty, and put their children on better footing for the future.

On my first trip to the field as Pro Mujer’s President and CEO, I visited Nicaragua, where 12 percent of the population lives in extreme poverty. This year, Pro Mujer celebrates 20 years of empowering women in Nicaragua to be a lot more than a statistic: to become financially independent, healthy, and leaders in their communities. We are proud to dedicate our 2016 Spring issue to them.

At Pro Mujer, we aspire to be as strong as the women we serve. Our commitment lies in supporting underserved women in Latin America as they solve everyday challenges, and in helping them, their loved ones, and their communities thrive as a result.

Together we are building the world we all want. Thank you for being a part of this exciting, dignifying journey. The best is yet to come!
