With the purpose of driving financial inclusion and offering new growth opportunities to women entrepreneurs, Pro Mujer, a social enterprise with more than 35 years of experience, and Quipu, an expert in the development of digital financial solutions, have signed a strategic alliance that will expand access to flexible and innovative productive loans in Colombia.
The need is urgent: according to Credicorp, 62% of women entrepreneurs do not have access to formal credit; the World Bank reports that 73% of women-led MSMEs lack capital to invest in their businesses; and data from the Financial Market Commission (CMF) show that loan applications submitted by women are 15% less likely to be approved.
Against this backdrop, the collaboration seeks to bring more inclusive financing solutions closer to women. Through this alliance, Pro Mujer users will be able to access products developed by Quipu—such as the Crédito Escalera and Supercrédito—specially designed for entrepreneurs and women in vulnerable situations who face barriers to entering the traditional financial system.
The agreement includes:
- Digital integration to facilitate the connection between Pro Mujer users and the Quipu platform.
- An initial pilot with 1,200 graduated entrepreneurs, which will later expand to reach up to 5,000 women in Colombia.
- Use of alternative data to evaluate credit applications and reduce the risks of financial exclusion.
- Joint outreach and support strategies, prioritizing women seeking working capital to grow their businesses.
“At Pro Mujer, we work to ensure that no woman is left behind. This alliance with Quipu opens the door to fairer, more flexible credit solutions that align with the realities of the women we serve,” said Carmen Correa, CEO of Pro Mujer.
“Our goal at Quipu is to transform access to productive credit through technological tools and more inclusive models. Together with Pro Mujer, we will reach thousands of women who currently find no response in the traditional banking system,” stated Mercedes Bidart, CEO of Quipu.
Through this alliance, Pro Mujer and Quipu reaffirm their commitment to building a more inclusive financial ecosystem, where women in Latin America have the tools they need to strengthen their businesses, improve their quality of life, and drive the economic development of their communities.
