Each summer, delegates from around the world gather in Cannes, France to celebrate the best of advertising and creativity at the Cannes Lions International Festival. Last year, Pro Mujer took part in Cannes Lions as a proud beneficiary of “The Glass Lion: The Lion for Change,” receiving a spotlight at the festival for our work empowering women in Latin America.
The Glass Lion Award
The Cannes Lions International Festival began in the mid-1950s as a way to recognize creativity and achievement in advertising. While the festival continues its long history of awards, in 2015 Cannes Lions created a new award category to reflect increasing awareness of pressing social issues. The Glass Lion: The Lion for Change award appeared last year to highlight ad campaigns that tackle the issue of gender equality. Winning ads include Procter & Gamble India’s Touch the Pickle and Sport England’s This Girl Can.
Making a Difference at Cannes Lions 2016
Reinforcing its commitment to gender equality, Cannes Lions also provides a platform for raising donations for this cause. Cannes Lions will partner once more with in/Pact and GoodCoin Foundation to raise awareness and support for non-profit organizations dedicated to women’s rights. Pro Mujer is proud to be selected for a second year as one of 10 organizations that will be showcased during Cannes Lions 2016. Each day of the festival, delegates will be able to make donations on their smartphones ranging anywhere from 10 to 100 Euros to one of the chosen ten organizations.
Pro Mujer is honored to have been selected from a pool of over one million registered non-profits as a Glass Lion beneficiary. At Pro Mujer, we have provided more than two million women over the last 25 years with the tools to change their lives and transform their communities. With the support of Cannes Lions, in/Pact, GoodCoin Foundation and all the attending delegates, we will continue to serve the women of Latin America, expanding our services to reach even more of them.
Pro Mujer enjoyed another successful year at the 2016 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. We are proud to announce that we received nearly $8,000 in generous donations. We are thankful to all the delegates who participated and for the support of In/Pact Now, Cannes Lions and Good Coin Foundation.
